This is Layla’s face when I tell her about the things Etsy changes in their search engine optimization (SEO) in 2020. 

Kidding, her brother probably told her their were big fish right at her feet! 

But… hey since we are here let’s not be caught by surprise by changes Etsy has made in 2020. 

Here are the two biggest changes to the way people find your products on Etsy when they search key phrases like “Vail Colorado Wall Art.”

1. You can’t check how your products rank for everyone, meaning you can’t really tell anymore if you show on the first page of search results when you search on Etsy for a particular phrase. This is now individualized per person. Meaning you may rank on the first page for one person and not another. The search results now take into consideration the customer’s past searches, purchases, and interactions online. Don’t worry if you still have optimized SEO you will still rank higher than everyone else it’s just important to know your product won’t be ranked in exact the same place for everyone. 
2. If you offer free shipping you will rank higher in search. Remember, this is just one component of search. IF you offer free shipping you will need to add that cost back into your product. I don’t often advice looking too closely at your competitors but if you do a quick search and all of a sudden your product is priced way above all your competitors because you are offering free shipping you may want to think about if it’s worth the high cost of the product. If you sell custom tables perhaps people expect to have a high shipping cost and really just want to see the price of the table up front. There’a s bit of a art to this. I started to offer free shipping and the base price of my product went from $25.99 to $29.99 and I didn’t see a drop in sales.
