Top 5 elements to ensure your Etsy Store Front looks like a million bucks.
July 12, 2020
I often find myself with motivation to update pieces of my Etsy Shop, one day I’ll be inspired by another shops shop banner and I’ll update that, be happy with it and then move on with my day and forget to look at the big picture of my Etsy Shop Store Front. I needed a checklist to review to ensure my store front looked cohesive and on brand so when customers would see the store front they would feel confident in their purchase. I want my store front to look like a million bucks, I feel much better about charging a premium for my products, which I know are fabulous and worth every penny if my store front matches that quality I’m charing for! Here are the top 5 things I always ensure look are up to par.
How to Create a Cohesive Brand
First, when I open my store front does it look cohesive? I have identified two primary colors that are my brand colors. If you would like a tool to help identify brand colors, canva has a free color palette tool which I love. https://www.canva.com/colors/color-palettes/ Once I’ve identified my brand colors, I ask myself are those the main colors in my banner, shop icon, and listing photos? I have also chosen two fonts that I use in my shop banner and shop icon. If I’ve updated anything does it all flow together when I land on my store front? If not I need to make a change to ensure I’m staying on brand. This is where you must take a birds eye view of your shop and make sure it looks cohesive. Next, look at your listing photos, do they look organized? I like to only have 2 or two different varieties of style for my main thumbnail so my listings look organized on the front page. A nice white background or an image of you holding your product looks so pleasing to the eye and also looks great in search. Be sure to use the rearrange tool to move your listings around on your front page to make sure your listings look cohesive.
The Golden Components of a Shop Banner
Second, I focus on the individual components of my store front. Let’s start with your banner. There are multiple different options for your shop banner, You have two standard size options: Big banners make a splash across the top of your shop home, I personally love this one to create a big impact. They should be 3360 x 840 pixels for optimal performance, and a minimum of 1200 x 300 pixels. You can choose mini banners instead of big banners, Mini banners are best if you’d rather your shop icon and listings take primary focus. At 1200 x 160 pixels, mini banners will shift your listings higher up when viewing your shop home on desktop, and do not appear on mobile devices.
It’s a great idea to display your best photography in your shop banner. Use text sparingly. Many people choose to put their shop name in their banner, just make sure the text is big enough so it will display on mobile devices. I personally like to use multiple images in my shop banner, canva is a great free tool to use, they give you banner templates that will fit perfectly! I like to place images in my shop banner that evoke emotion, I will choose one image of the object in use (if I’m selling wedding decor I place an image of a bride with the wedding decor in the image) and an image of me making a piece for my store (if my piece of wedding decor is painted I show an image of me painting the piece of decor).
How to Create an Impactful Shop Icon
Third let’s look at your shop icon, think of your shop icon as your logo. A great shop icon communicates something meaningful about your brand using simple graphics and minimal text. I like to again use Canva they have lots of etsy shop icon templates to make the process really simple. Remember that your shop icon (500 x 500 pixels) at it’s largest size but it will appear in other areas of the shop such as activity feeds where it will appear much smaller, especially in the app so make sure it’s simple enough that when it’s small it’s still readable and impactful. Also remember to use your brand colors and fonts to ensure it’s cohesive with your shop banner.
The Perfect Shop Owner Picture
Fourth let’s ensure you have a shop owner picture! One of the main reasons people shop on Etsy is to have something hand made by a maker, that’s you! The profile picture is small so I like to just have a head shot photo! I try and make sure my picture looks friendly and inviting, putting on my best smile!
Why Etsy Shoppers Love the Additional Photos in the About Me Photo Carosel
The last and perhaps the most interesting component of your Etsy Store front in the About Me photo carousel. You have 5 opportunities to show your products, your process and yourself! Remember people shop on Etsy to find unique items made by sellers just like you. Capitalize on your customer’s mindset and show another picture of yourself with your product and a process photo of you making your craft! These photo opportunities are a great place to show the details of one of more of your products. A nice close up image of the texture of your product looks so nice on your store front!
