Are you dreaming up a new Etsy shop name or want to change the one you have? Are you wondering how to name your Etsy Shop? There are only a few rules. Your shop name has to be 20 characters or less and contains no spaces or punctuation. Your shop name can not be used by anyone else on Etsy. There are three simple ways you can name your Etsy shop. With this exercise, you’ll be on your way to creating an impactful and cohesive brand with a name you love.
#1 Your Name
It’s a great idea to build a brand around yourself. Customers are attracted to Etsy because they are buying from a maker, and that’s you! If you are passionate about connecting with your customers, this is a great way to put yourself at the forefront of your brand.
Using your name allows you to be flexible in your offerings. If you name your shop “pottery finds,” that’s great as long as you stick to pottery. If you name your shop with your name in it, you now have more flexibility. I’ve seen people use their name and add a descriptor at that end of their shop like LaurenKrummelDesign
#2 Suggestive Descriptive Name
The suggestive descriptive shop name describes what you are selling, and suggests to the customer what they should expect when opening the door to your shop. It’s a precursor to their experience.
You can think of these names like a formula: a word or phrase that expresses the vibe or feeling you want your brand to evoke, added to descriptive words that make it clear what you sell, equals your shop name.
#3 Abstract Name
This is an approach to really get creative and be unique! Abstract names give you the opportunity to give your shop a simple one or two word shop name that’s unique and easily identified and tied to your brand. Simply one or two words will remind your customer of your shop and likely your shop only.
What can you draw inspiration from? Movies? Species of plants and animals often have very unique names. Foreign to you words often have a nice unique ring to them. The types of inspiration to draw from are endless.
Shop Power Words
To help you choose your shop name, experiment with a few of these shop naming power words. Not all of these listed will be a good fit for you, try a few and see what you think! If the name you’ve decided on is being used by another Etsy shop consider putting one of these words at the end of your shop name.
Naming your Etsy shop can be one of the most fun activities as an Etsy Shop owner. It’s a great idea to come up with a shop name in each of the three catagories, “your name,” “suggestive, descriptive name,” and an “abstract name.” This way you can have three different names to pick from. Changing your Etsy shop name
The process of naming your Etsy shop can be time consuming. It’s a lot like naming a child but it’s much easier to change your mind as an Etsy shop owner. If you are getting hung up on being able to commit to an Etsy shop name, know that you can change your shop name. Nothing is permanent. You can change your Etsy shop name as many times as you like before opening your Etsy shop. If you are wondering how many times you can you change your Etsy shop name once your shop is open, the answer is five. Just head to info & appearance in your shop manager and change your name. After you’ve changed your shop name five times, you’ll have to submit a form to Etsy support to request a name change.
